Learning Yu-Gi-Oh

Ok, so you’ve got your cards. And you draw one at the beginning of your turn, in the Draw Phase.

Then you go into your Main Phase. You can summon monsters from your cards now. But only one. I think you can also do some kinds of spells?

Next is Battle Phase, which is where you can finally attack an opponent’s monsters. But I don’t know how you know who will win, because I never did.

Then you’re…back to Main Phase? But this is Main Phase 2? And you can’t do any of the stuff you could do in Main Phase 1? This Phase can go to Hell.

Finally, you end your turn. And your opponent does all this. Also, at seemingly random times, your opponent will do something that causes Rose Bushes (exactly what it sounds like, and also a monster) to appear on both his side and your side of the game. Did I mention there were two sides of the mat or field or…rink?

I did not win my first game.

However, it WAS projected from the PSP onto a larger television screen, so 8-10 people gathered around to watch me. I’m sure my furrowed brow and stiff grimace of concentration evoked a Hemingway-esque sense of dignity, even in defeat.

This Is Not For Me

Clay is a white, 20-something, male. There is a lot in the world that is not aimed at him. That doesn't mean he won't leave his comfort zone to liveblog these things.
